With the advancement of technology and its various applications in our daily life, many of the irrigation systems now come equipped with an automated system that boasts of increased efficiency and effectiveness in providing irrigation while reducing the amount of resources used.
Just what is an automated irrigation system? An automated irrigation system is basically an irrigation system that is controlled by various mechanical and electrical components such as sensors to monitor the relevant parameters within the environment.
These sensors will determine when the irrigation system will be turned on and when it will be turned off. There are many factors that could be set as a controlling factor, for instance – irrigation time, soil moisture content, soil pH levels, and temperature.
For example, the sensors could be set to turn on at a specific time of the day, or when soil moisture content drops below a certain level. Inversely, it could be set to turn off after a specific period of time or when the soil moisture content reaches a specific point.

Besides, by setting the irrigation system to be control by soil moisture content, we avoid water wastage and nutrient leaching due to watering in excess.
